Bjond investigates with SGS the consequences of an incident with acid, factory in Indonesia

Last year, a leak in a storage tank caused a lot of corrosion damage to a newly built crude palm oil refinery and biodiesel plant in Indonesia. Numerous structural concrete, steel and stainless steel parts as well as equipment such as (pressure)vessels, pipes and tanks were heavily affected by the HCl.

SGS was assigned to inspect the installation and recommend mitigation measures, such as repairs to restore the life expectancy of the installation to the original state before the incident.

The main purpose of the assignment is to recommend the most appropriate remedial measures and possible monitoring actions after careful analysis of the impact of the damage. Ultimately, the biodiesel plant in Indonesia must be permanently restored to its original state. To obtain the right data we work with local SGS inspectors and inspectors from the plant owner in Indonesia.

For this complex project, Bjond is hired by SGS to offer high-quality experience and expertise in the field of corrosion and corrosion protection of all structural and process-related steel components. Subjects are discussed here such as: risk of stress corrosion, corrosion under insulation and suitable cleaning and surface preparation techniques.
